Core Subjects

English Language Arts:

Our commitment is to ensure all scholars have mastered foundational literacy skills so that they are proficient readers and writers within three years of attending TLA.  This begins in K4 by being immersed in a literacy rich, hands-on learning environment.  Across the grade levels, scholars read culturally diverse, challenging texts closely and intentionally, including nonfiction.  Scholars write analytical responses that are based on evidence from the text, along with gaining knowledge of their world.

Science:

Scholars solve real-world problems where they investigate scientific phenomena, engage in collaboration and discussion, and develop models or explanations in order to arrive at solutions.  TLA blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to empower scholars to think, read, write, and debate like real scientists and engineers.

Math:

Oral discussion and writing about math is as significant as arriving at a solution.  Building multiple strategies and deep understanding of numbers work is how scholars become great math problem solvers.  Personalized learning provides the necessary support for all scholars to master grade level standards.

Social Studies:

Scholars explore their world, expand their thinking, and engage their college, career, and civic awareness. Project-based learning creates rich inquiry experiences that develop skills for active and responsible citizenship. Scholars study: behavioral sciences, economics, geography, history, and political science.  In high school all scholars take a personal financial literacy course designed to learn how to manage their money.  It is one of the most important skills one can have. Why? Because financial decisions have long-term consequences on having choice-filled lives.

Specialties

A great education includes ample opportunities in learning outside of the core academics.  We  offer art, music, and physical education classes to be sure we meet the spectrum of nurturing the whole child.  Is your child an artist?  Do they love to sing or play an instrument?  Or, do they love to move their body and be involved in sports?  If so, TLA is the place to pursue those passions in our state of the art learning environment.
